Day 6 of the Galloway Picts Project. Work began in earnest on Charles Thomas’ Trench 2 today. It was previously speculated to be a guard hut. We dug through the backfill and found evidence of our predecessors in the form of broken glass (modern) and some sweet wrappers. Quickly the trench began to fill with water after getting below the topsoil. We removed the water with buckets and sponges only for the water to refill within minutes. This leads us to believe that we are dealing with a well with a spring for a source. This is a good indication that the site was occupied all year round. We believe we have reached the bottom of the trench dug by the scouts and Charles Thomas, but there is still more depth to go. Alistair
